Menu Options: a guide to logical menu setup
MiClub Essential uses dropdown menus for navigation, this gives you the flexibility of having any number of pages grouped under a limited number of Main Menu Buttons. Before you read this section we recommend viewing an existing MiClub Essential site to gain an understanding of a working menu, click here to view.
When choosing your Menu Options consider what pages you want in your site.
You can choose a total of twelve pages, however our templates require that there is a Home page and a Trade Directory page*. If you need more than twelve pages, extra pages can be purchased at $220.00 (incl GST).
As an example, here are 12 Sub Menu Pages a golf club may require:
- Home (required page)
- Trade Directory (required page)
- Membership Details (costs, options, etc)
- Membership Application (an application form, click here for an example)
- Club History
- Contact Us (a standard enquiry form, click here for an example)
- Course Tour
- Course Care (use our standard page or make your own)
- Gallery (a photo gallery of the club and/or club patrons etc)
- Pro Shop
- Links (contains links to recipricol clubs, Golf Link etc)
- Functions (for restaurants or function rooms)
Group these pages logically under headings that relate to the pages. These headings will become our Main Menu Buttons. Main Menu Buttons themselves are not linked to Sub Menu Pages themselves, but are anchor points for drop down menus containing Sub Menu Page links**.
Using the above example, the layout of pages grouped under Main Menu Buttons could be:
Golf |
Functions |
Membership |
About Us |
Pro Shop |
Functions |
Membership Details |
Club History |
Course Tour |
|
Membership Application |
Gallery |
Course Care |
|
|
Contact Us |
| |
|
|
Links |
Main Menu Buttons |
Sub Menu Pages |
With this menu structure when you put your mouse pointer over the Main Menu Button called 'Golf' a menu will drop down containing the Sub Menu links to 'Pro Shop', 'Course Tour' and 'Course Care'.
When we add the Home and Trade Directory* buttons this will make six Main Menu Buttons on your page, which is the maximum amount allowed in the navigation setup.
One final thing to keep in mind is there is a limited character space on Menu and Sub Menu buttons, so they should be as concise as possible. Keep the width to 22 characters or less.
* clubs can request the removal of the Trade Directory Upper Level Menu Button.
** Note it is important for this grouping to be logical to help any visitor to your page to easily navigate around your site.
